One of my greatest pet peeves for newer writers is the expectation that their hard work and effort resulted in a near-perfect draft that requires little to no rework. Many see critiques as a means of receiving praise and boosting their egos. They often get defensive when their hopes are crushed under the weight of comments, suggestions, edits, and constructive criticism. They reply to their reviewers’ comments to justify their writing, and when that doesn’t work, they ignore them.
Too often, I receive critiques from the same people, making the same mistakes...
